The village of Monolithos is situated on the eastern coast of the island, 2 km north of Kamari and 6 km from the capital of Fira. Its location offers a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea while its beach has the best sand you can ever find in Santorini. Its name, Mono-lithos (meaning Single-rock), owes it to a large rock/hill, on which the picturesque church of Agios Ioannis was built..

The organized beach of Monolithos, always protected from high waves, has received the international quality award “Blue Flag”.  It is only 5-minute walk away and is the only sandy, shallow beach on the island.

A flat beach, with black volcanic sand, is washed by a calm sea with clear, crystal waters. Its colors range from turquoise to intense blue, while its depths gradually approach, offering tranquility and safety, even to the uninitiated. Ideal, not only for families, where young children can play safely, but also for lovers of long-distance swimming.

A little further north, impressive rock formations are sculpted by the winds and salt, and stand like guardians watching over the Aegean sea.

Unlike the nearby Kamari beach, Monolithos is much quieter, less crowded, and much loved, especially by local families.
